A familiar face with a wealth of experience: Christy Turner’s Ian Butcher was recently promoted from our existing management team to head up our entirely UK manufacturing operation and oversee worldwide operations.
Ian’s pedigree in precision engineering dates back to an apprenticeship with veteran engineering company, Ransome & Rapier in Ipswich, before he joined Turner Chilled Rolls as Production Manager on a 15 year tenure before a 7 year stint with Precision Engineers, Manganese Bronze. Ian then started his career with Christy Turner, initially becoming Parts & Service Manager, and more recently General Manager.
Christy Turner Ltd prides itself on producing hammer mills, roller mills, flaking mills, pulversizers, steam chests and other products that are built to last, with customers regularly making contact to request spares and servicing for machines that are over 80 years old.
Ian says “the history of our exclusively UK operation speaks for itself, but we are also committed to innovation and use our experience, expertise and engineering knowledge to produce a wide range of well-designed, robust machinery that usually outlives the career of its buyer”
Ian goes on to explain “we provide first class customer support both before and after purchase and offer customers a variety of services, including a dedicated spare parts team along with skilled and experienced service engineers, to ensure that our machines continue to provide decades of reliability without missing a day’s work. The demands on these products are intense and constant. Our pre and post sales service also has to be up to the task”
Ian’s experience between foundry, workshop, customer site and boardroom, coupled with an in-depth industry and product knowledge make him a natural choice to lead a business that designs, manufactures, delivers and supports range of hammer mills, roller mills and flaking mills worldwide, recently securing a commission for a new Breakfast Cereal 600 Flaking Mill and steam conditioner for French horticulture supplies specialists, Adicer.
One of our more local customers, Gary Mcilwaine, Head of Operations for Edme, food ingredient millers in Mistley, Manningtree has a long established association with Ian and Christy Turner:
“I would like to offer my congratulations to Ian on his recent appointment to Managing Director of Christy Turner Ltd. Having worked as a business with Christy Turner for number of years and having a good working relationship, it was on one of our more recent projects on the cooking side that Ian and his team delivered not only to a high standard but on time and within our budget. The support we have received since has been superb. I would like to wish Ian all the best in his role and thank both him and his team for their great work and support towards EDME over a number of years and I looking forward to continuing this relationship”
Tony Gosling, Non Executive Director of Christy Turner Ltd, on appointing Ian as MD: “Ian’s people focus means our long-standing workforce works as a unified team that helps us to deliver the reliability and service we are known for. Ian knows how to get the most out of people and his considerable experience with us speaks for itself. He keeps both our teams and our machines running smoothly”
The motivational and development side of Ian’s personality is something he takes home with him at the end of the day: 35 years as a Scout leader means his skills are put to excellent purpose in the community as well as the industry.
